Forensic Crime Writer Lisa Black
Crime Fiction Book Discussion and Signing – Wednesday, September 20, 2017, 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Lisa Black spent the five happiest years of her life in a morgue. As a forensic scientist at the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office she analyzed gunshot residue on hands and clothing, hairs, fibers, paint, glass, DNA, blood and many other forms of trace evidence, as well as crime scenes. Now a certified latent print examiner and CSI in Florida, she’s the author of eleven novels. One has been optioned for film, and one reached the NYT bestseller’s list. Her latest is Unpunished.
“A bizarre death makes headlines — literally. When a copy editor at the Cleveland Herald is found hanging above the grinding wheels of the newspaper assembly line, forensic investigator Maggie Gardiner has her suspicions. The evidence suggests murder and Maggie finds that she has to place her trust in the one person she doesn’t trust at all . . .”

On Thursday October 26, 2017, Read Ohio continues with award-winning author Robin Yocum, who will read and discuss his book, the 2017 Edgar® Award-nominated A Brilliant Death. Read Ohio is an author talk and book discussion series hosted by Literary Cleveland, in partnership with the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library. This event will take place on Thursday, October 26 from 7-8:00 p.m. at Market Garden Brewery, 1947 W. 25th Street, Cleveland. It is free and open to the public.
Robin Yocum, whose latest and fourth novel A Welcome Murder was released in April, is also the author of the critically acclaimed novels Favorite Sons and The Essay. The president of Yocum Communications, a public relations and marketing firm in Westerville, Ohio, Yocum is well known for his work as a crime and investigative reporter with the Columbus Dispatch from 1980-1991. He was the recipient of more than thirty local, state, and national journalism awards in categories ranging from investigative reporting to feature writing.
Few literary events are as special as an author talk for giving readers insight into the book and, perhaps, the author’s creative process. Participants are welcome to read Yocum’s work in advance or come to experience his writing for the first time and engage in conversation.
